Case Study: Strategic Procurement
Refining Product Specifications of Recycling Cages for a National Initiative
The Challenge
A client needed a scalable, cost-effective recycling bin to support a national recycling initiative, deployed across schools, gas stations, and large public events. The bins had to hold up to constant public use while staying practical to install, empty, and move at scale.
Getting there wasn't a single design. The first version had no wheels, making it difficult to reposition. Its opening mechanism made emptying awkward, and the overall build lacked the sturdiness needed for high-traffic public environments.
The AVLM Solution
We went through several rounds of discussions with the client before settling on a final version. The final design added:
-
A two-panel horizontal door for sturdier, safer, more controlled access
-
Optional detachable wheels for easier repositioning and secure placement
-
Simplified, tool-free assembly to speed up installation and cut errors.
We shipped the cages in a full container, disassembled which required having all parts carefully packed and organized in a manner that would allow for easy deployment into the operation.
